Coaching Skills: Hallmarks of Coaching Excellence

James Gehrke

Coaching Skills explores the barriers to coaching excellence and discusses the key skills and behaviors research has shown lead to coaching excellence. We will review an example of a planning guide that will help address current coaching challenges before developing an action plan to remove coaching barriers and improve individual and organizational coaching skills.

Magnifying the potential of individuals is a passion for James Gehrke, whose goal is to improve the individual and organizational effectiveness through learning and development. James is the author of Magnify L&D Change Leadership: A Practical Guide for Leading Teams in Times of Change; has a Master's of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership; and has 25+ years working with pharmaceutical and other top companies to improve individual, team, and organizational effectiveness.

Awareness--An Overlooked Tool in Talent Development

Jim Phillips

Awareness--An Overlooked Tool in Talent Development covers the use of this "soft skill" with its day-to-day application. Development of the individual appears to be a major contributor to organizational and personal success, even more than basic technical knowledge. Research has shown that we need to master skills that help us connect to and influence others, maintain relationships, and manage and control ourselves. In our time together, we'll look at two forms of awareness that can be used with clients, customers, peers, leadership, and ourselves--situational awareness and self-awareness.

Jim Phillips currently directs the training and leadership development as well as instructional design for the Motor Carrier Division of the State of Utah's Department of Transportation. He develops, writes, and records training materials delivered both in the classroom as well as through technology.

We’ve Moved!

Utah ATD will begin holding our monthly events in a new, centrally located venue beginning January 19, 2017! Join us at the Residence Inn Murray (171 E 5300 S) to experience the first event at this updated and central location.

In addition to a new location, January will debut a change to the monthly event format. The event will begin at 11:30-12:00 with lunch and networking. Then, the presentation of the day will run from 12:00-1:30. Presentations will support a variety of areas of expertise, and a significant portion of each presentation will be dedicated to how the information can be used in practical applications. Many of these presentations will also feature activities and more opportunities for participation.

See you there!
